Balancing Work, Kids, and More…

Ah, the life of a working mom! You wake up in the morning with a smile, envisioning a productive day at the office, and by 8:00 AM, you’re knee-deep in laundry, breakfast negotiations, and the ever-elusive search for matching socks. Sound familiar? If you’re a fellow “mompreneur,” you know the struggle is real! As the owner of Spring Architecture + Design, my days are filled with deadlines, client meetings, and the constant quest for creativity. But as soon as I step through the door, I transform into the Chief Operating Officer of the Household (COO). Suddenly, I’m managing snack time, refereeing sibling disputes, and double-checking the calendar for the 50th time to make sure I’ve got all the kids’ activities straight. Thankfully, I’m on top of it (for now!).

The Reality of “Mompreneur” Life

Let’s talk about the daily balancing act. Picture this: I’m on a video call with a client discussing the intricate details of a new design project, and in the background, my child is performing an impromptu dance recital, complete with costume changes and a live audience of stuffed animals. Meanwhile, I’m trying to suppress laughter while simultaneously muting my mic and sneaking a snack from the kitchen. *For real, though—I’m so serious about my work that I retain, take notes, and regurgitate my client’s requests with precision as I professionally guide them through presentations filled with imagery, sketches, and more.

Multitasking Level: Expert

God knows where the multitasking gene comes from, but I imagine some godly woman generations ago figuring it out, and we as women have inherited this incredible quality. If you think juggling a business and motherhood is hard, try adding the ability to function on two hours of sleep and find your car keys while dodging Lego bricks. Every day is a new adventure in “what could possibly go wrong?”—and trust me, I’ve seen it all. Just last night, our alarm triggered at 1:30 in the morning while my three little ones jumped into my bed for a couple of hours. We chatted and knew that tomorrow was another full day of work, school, and activities.

Finding the Humor in Chaos

One of the best lessons I’ve learned as a working mom is to find humor in the chaos. Whether it’s the time my toddler decided to use my architectural plans as a canvas for their “art project” or when I mistakenly sent a client a photo of my child’s lunch instead of the latest design mockup (who knew avocado toast could be so captivating?), laughter has become my secret weapon. Remember, if you can’t find the humor in a meltdown over mismatched socks or a conference call interrupted by a sudden snack attack, you might just lose your mind! So, embrace the madness, and don’t forget to laugh along the way.

Empowering Mompreneurs

As I navigate the challenges of being a working mom and a business owner, my goal is to empower other women to do the same. I believe that it’s possible to pursue your passions and dreams while raising a family. Yes, it requires sacrifice, late nights, and the occasional tantrum (from both kids and adults), but it’s also incredibly rewarding. In the future, I plan to write a book sharing my experiences, tips, and maybe even a few embarrassing stories (because what’s a memoir without a bit of mortification?). My hope is that it will inspire other mompreneurs to embrace their journey, imperfections and all.
